Description

Pouch Crane and Flowers

In consultation with the Rijksmuseum, the Amsterdam BIEN moves agency by Sabien Duetz designed this beautiful pouch, inspired by the crane of d'Hondecoeter and the flowers of Mignon - both in the Rijksmuseum. The case has a nylon and cotton front and a green velvet back. The inside is lined with gold colored lining and the gold colored metal zipper has a metallic leather zipper pull. The pouch is ideal to use as a make-up bag or simply as a small pouch.

The works of art

Melchior d'Hondecoeter and Abraham Mignon are both 17th century painters. d'Hondecoeter is best known for paintings of animals, the masterpiece of which is the generous canvas (159 × 144cm hxw) a pelican and other fowl near a water basin, known as "The floating feather" from around 1680. Painted for William III and Mary. The crane from this painting can be found on the pouch. Abraham Mignon produced brilliant small-scale (flower) still lifes, which were highly appreciated and long imitated. They are strongly influenced by his teachers Marrel and De Heem, but they are somewhat harder in line and in color. The floral fragment on the case comes from Still Life with Flowers and a Watch that has been in the Rijksmuseum's collection since 1870.

About the Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum is the most iconic museum in the Netherlands. The completely revamped museum reopened its doors to the public in 2013, from the renovated Cuypers Cathedral on Museumplein (Museum Square) in Amsterdam. A breathtaking building with an amazing interior and beautiful exhibitions. The Rijksmuseum is more than 200 years old and has had several locations. In 1885, the museum moved into the Cuypers Cathedral and the Rijks, as we know it today, was officially opened.
