About Valentine's Day & February 14
In Belgium and the Netherlands, Valentine's Day has gained a lot of popularity since the mid-nineties, with the emphasis - also from commerce - shifted from anonymous love to love. In recent years, around a quarter of all Dutch people are doing something about Saint Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day owes its name to St. Valentine since the year 496 the holiday of two Christian martyrs named Valentinus. However, they have no relationship with Valentine's Day habits.
Valentine - an old use in a new jacket?
No biographical information is known about St. Valentine. Possibly Valentine's Day on February 14 is the replacement for the old Lupercalia, a Roman (and perhaps even older) fertility celebration. Lupercalia was celebrated on 15 February in honor of Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and marriage, and Pan, the god of nature
