This sturdy Paxton candlestick is robust and has an industrial nature. This provides a conscious contrast with the usual classic and romantic appearance of a candleholder. This Paxton candlestick is given its shape by pouring liquid aluminum in a purpose-made mould. The black powder coating also contributes to the sturdy appearance. Because of its solid construction, this candleholder - which weighs 4 kilograms - can carry much more weight than the five black candles included in the order. According to designer Roderick Vos, the industrial shapes of the Paxton candlestick are reminiscent of an engine, and element of a bridge, or even a stealth aircraft. As he puts it, “There’s no Versailles to it”. 

 

The Paxton candlestick is a tribute to Sir Jospeh Paxton, the designer of the famous Crystal Palace at the Great Exhibition in 1851 that was held in Hyde Park, Londen. In retrospect, this exhibiton has been recognized as the first universal world fair. It’s regarded as the start of the Industrial Revolution.
