Description

Vincent van Gogh scarves

Truly special: 100% silk scarves with a fine detail from one of the masterpieces of Vincent van Gogh. You can choose a Van Gogh scarf with excerpts from these famous paintings: Almond Blossom, Sunflowers or Flowering plum garden. All three designs are rectangular and have the same generous size: a length of 136 cm and a width of 82 cm. Delightful elegance and soft comfort.

Almond Blossom

Van Gogh painted this sparkling still life of delicate almond blossom against a bright blue sky for his newborn nephew Vincent Willem. The subject, as well as the sharp contours and placement of the tree, was inspired by Japanese prints.

Sunflowers

From the sunflower series, there are three paintings that have fifteen sunflowers in a vase and two with twelve sunflowers in a vase. Vincent van Gogh painted these works in 1888 and 1889 while living in Arles in southern France. The paintings where used by Paul Gauguin, a good friend of Van Gogh, to decorate his bedroom. Today, they can be found in five museums in as many countries. The Van Gogh scarf is based on the Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers exhibited at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

Flowering plum garden

Van Gogh was a great admirer of Japanese art. It made him happy and cheerful. He made three paintings based on Japanese prints from his own collection, including Utagawa Hiroshige's The plum tree teahouse in Kameido. The composition he literally copied, but he put stronger emphasis on the colors. He also added two orange decorative frames with Japanese characters, which he took from another picture: The Courtesan Nishikigi. Without knowing their meaning, he copied the names of the prostitute, the brothel where she worked, and the red light district in Tokyo.

About Vincent van Gogh

Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands and later went to live in Paris and other places in France. He did not have such a happy life and people in his lifetime disliked his beautiful paintings. In all his life, he managed to sell only one of his paintings. He earned no money and remained forever dependent on his parents and brother Theo. He takes to drink and is eventually admitted to a psychiatric hospital. He then decided to fully concentrate on painting. On July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh dies, leaving behind more than 850 paintings.
